Job Description

The Head of QA manages a team of employees, local contractors, and offshore resources. He/she also partners with cross-functional Leads for ensuring delivery of product quality to the website. While strong emphasis is based on the testing discipline (functional, regression, automation, and load & performance), the vision for QA is to fulfill on its larger promise of quality assurance; assurance implies involvement in all phases of the product lifecycle, not just testing.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with the architecture and quality of high volume, real-time transactional systems and possess detailed knowledge of software development best practices. The ideal candidate will also have hands-on experience working with cross-functional teams and partnering at the management level to deliver for the business.
Job responsibilities include:
o Defining, implementing, and maintaining best-of-class processes, procedures, and tools to enhance quality engineering processes and productivity
o Driving measurable change in the company?s product and code quality
o Resource allocation, capacity planning, scheduling, risk management, issue resolution and productivity metrics tracking
o Mentoring and leading a local and geographically dispersed team to deliver features and updates to the site on schedule while achieving high quality objectives
o Performance reviews, compensation, career planning and recruiting new talent as required to manage varying work load
o Influence development managers and architects to insure that appropriate levels of quality and testability is built-in to the design and code
o Partnering with Customer Service, Product, and Business teams to champion customer issues and concerns


Job Requirements

Education, skills & Experience:
o fluent in Dutch & English;
o 5 + years experience in leading engineering and quality teams
o 10+ years hands-on experience in requirements analysis, design, coding, and unit testing of scalable, distributed, multi-tiered, fault-tolerant applications in Windows and UNIX environments.
o Several years experience in working on high-volume web / eCommerce capabilities
o Several years object-oriented design methodology and application development in Java and J2EE, including servlets, JS, JDBC.
o Proven experience of leading the QA and testing function within a highly technical environment
o Excellent knowledge of testing tools and testing procedures within an application based environment
o Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills across a range of technologies
o Strong experience in managing offshore teams and bringing out their best potential/efficiency irrespective of their geographical location
o Outstanding presentation and written skills as well as the ability to deal effectively with both technologists and business representatives
o Ability to facilitate cross functional team communications
o Self-motivated, able to work independently and be able to thrive in a multifaceted fast-paced development environment
o Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions within a short timeframe
